Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage (FUUH) is an UNESCO Project for undertaking activities to protect and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal networkof higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

Summary:

The launching of the International Year of Languages by Olabiyi Yai, Chair of the Executive Board and Permanent Delegate of Benin to UNESCO, will precede the Information Seminar: Normative instruments promoting multilingualism.

Themes for discussion will include:

Introduction: The existing normative tools at the international level (Professor Janet Blake, international expert, University Shahid Behesti, Tehran);

Regional and national approaches:

  • Outline of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages (Alexey Kozhemyakov, Secretariat of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, Council of Europe);
  • Economic Consequences of the Ratification of the Charter (Michele Gazzola, Assistant-Doctorant, Observatoire “économie langues formation” (élf), ETI, University of Geneva);
  • The Charter and the Right to Education (Kishore Sing, UNESCO, Education Sector);
  • The African Perspective of Linguistic Development (Adama Samassékou, African Academy of Languages);
  • Language Policy in Norway (to be confirmed);
  • Language Policy in Paraguay (Delicia Villagra, Linguist, Permanent Delegation of Paraguay to UNESCO;
  • Language Policy in Vanuatu (to be confirmed);
  • Presentation of Linguamón-Hause of Languages (Catalunia) (Antoni Mir, Linguarnón) ;

The seminar will be followed by a round table: “From standards to reality: models, synergies and limits” (Introduction by Julia Szelivanov, Permanent Delegation of Hungary to UNESCO).

About 200 participants are expected to attend the seminar, which is organized by UNESCO and the Council of Europe.
