This technical meeting brings together various teams of experts
from Indonesia and abroad, in order to share the results of the
research activities conducted on the Earthquake-affected Prambanan
World Heritage Compounds.
In the aftermath of the 27 May 2006 earthquake in Yogyakarta, the
UNESCO Office in Jakarta has assisted the Government of Indonesia
(Ministry of Culture and Tourism) through various emergency and
research activities in the Prambanan World Heritage Compounds and
in Taman Sari Water Castle.
These activities include:
- providing international expertise to assess the damage to the
Prambanan World Heritage compound;
- installing supporting structure to avoid further damage;
- Organizing an international experts’ meeting in March
2007 to elaborate a comprehensive Action Plan for the rehabilitation
of the sites.
This technical meeting is a follow-up of the April 2007 international
experts meeting for which the Directorate-General for History and
Archaeology (Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism) has formed
a team of national experts responsible for leading the technical
discussions.
