Summary: Hearts and Minds is about tugging at the heartstrings, about finding new ways to connect the emotional with the rational to create powerful visitor experiences.

And why is emotion so critical? Because people are sensory beings - we respond to and remember the experiences that truly touch us. Heritage interpretation is about harnessing this power to create visitor experiences that inform, inspire and influence.

Conference sessions will be grouped into three main topic areas:

• new audiences
• new approaches
• new deliveries

Case studies will be drawn from across the cultural sector including museums, national parks and historic sites. Participants will take away a wealth of new skills and knowledge that they can apply in their work. Some of the topics to be explored include:

• interpretation for children and families
• connecting stories and things to really big ideas
• communicating the deeply personal
• using the skills of the theatre to construct great experiences
• how interpretation and brand work together

There will also be lots of wonderful networking opportunities too, kicking off with an Awards Luncheon at the Adelaide Hilton and evening Cocktails in the new Amazon Waterlily Pavilion at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Other highlights include the Conference Dinner at Carrick Hill, a grand 1930s estate, and some fascinating and varied ‘behind-the-scenes’ field trips to natural and cultural destinations around Adelaide.

Remember to register before 22 September 2008 to take advantage of earlybird registration discounts!
