| This conference is aimed at exploring an effective long-term mechanism
for the conservation of World Natural Heritage, and promoting the
harmonious co-existence of man and nature through cooperation and
the exchange of management experiences among local authorities and
site managers in Asia and the Pacific region.
The conference takes place at the Mount E’mei World Heritage
site in Sichuan Province (China), and includes representatives from
national and local authorities (including World Heritage site managers)
from more than 30 Asia-Pacific States Parties with World Natural
Heritage properties located on their territories. Representatives
from UNESCO, the World Conservation Union (IUCN) and the Conservation
International (CI) will also attend.
A Mount E’mei Declaration on World Natural Heritage Sustainable
Conservation and Development is expected to be adopted at the meeting.
The conference follows the first and second sessions that were
held in Kagoshima and Shirakami-Sanchi, Japan in 2000 and 2005 respectively.
