| Summary: |
The main objective of this seminar is to examine the application
of both the theoretical and practical tools at our disposal in the
process of recognition and management of a site bearing built historical
elements. To do this, we will study the process leading to the recognition
of a heritage site and the assigning of a legal protection status.
We will also look at the different statuses that exist at different
levels of government, be it federal, provincial or municipal. We will
then identify the tools available for management of a heritage site
assuring its protection, conservation, development and promotion.
Finally, we will review the rights and obligations attached to heritage
buildings and sites protected by legal status.
The second objective of this seminar is to examine the process
of recognition and management as it has been applied to certain
buildings and sites, as a case study. Different intervention projects
on built elements bearing an interest from a heritage point of view,
already carried out or still in progress, will be analyzed in parallel
with the theoretical notions studied.
