| The aim of the Places of Culture Conference is to generate a
debate within the broader theoretical framework of culture and development.
Within this Framework we will examine the role of cultural facilities
as tools for spatial development.
The conference is intended as a reflection on the idea of culture
and development. First from the perspective of the theoretical reflection
posed by the opening paper, that will analyze the evolution of culture
and development approaches through the last 25 years, the current
state of the question and the lines opening ahead of us to face
the future.
And secondly from the experiences and good practices developing
currently and that allow us to see how cultural facilities generate
benefits for the communities where they are located.
In order to make de displays more accessible and facilitate tables
for enriching debates, the different experiences present at the
conference have been articulated through a computational metaphor
that reflects all the different aspects that come into play today
in conceiving, designing and managing Cultural facilities: SOFT,
HARD, ORG y NET.
Objectives
This conference was conceived to create a space that could become
an international space for reflection and debate on the value of
culture, a place to analyze the role of cultural facilities, the
Places of Culture, in and for our current society.
We propose this debate to be generated from the cultural practice,
from the exchange of experiences, ideas and projects working from
a perspective of integrated development that foster the search for
convergence between culture and other areas such as economy, tourism,
social inclusion or new technologies that are generating measurable
impacts in their environment both qualitatively and quantitatively.
The aim is then to explore the intrinsic value of culture in the
society of knowledge as generator of intangible values and benefits
which influence an integrated human development and the building
of more innovative and solidarious societies, societies better able
to cope with risk and that are organized around fairer models.

to all agents that are part of the cultural industry; and to all
