Intangible
Heritage Domains in the 2003 Convention
The Convention states that the intangible cultural heritage is manifested,
among others, in the following domains: - oral traditions and expressions,
including language as a vehicle of the intangible cultural heritage;
- performing arts; - social practices, rituals and festive events;
- knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe; -
traditional craftsmanship.

Director-General inaugurates the Festival of the Chinese Intangible
Cultural Heritage at UNESCO Headquarters
On Monday, 16 April 2007 the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koïchiro
Matsuura, opened the Festival of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage,
the first of its kind to be celebrated at UNESCO Headquarters.

On Thursday, 12 April 2007, the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koïchiro
Matsuura, inaugurated the photo exhibition entitled ‘Living
Heritage: exploring the intangible.
Exhibition:
“Living heritage: Exploring the intangible”
From 12 April to 30 November 2007. The exhibition presents more
than 100 photos featuring oral traditions, traditional music, dance
and theatre, social practices, rituals and festivals, as well as
traditional knowledge and skills that communities and groups around
the world receive from their ancestors and pass on to their descendants.

Entry
into force of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of
the Diversity of Cultural Expressions
On Friday 23 March 2007, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General
of UNESCO, organized an information meeting with permanent delegates
to the Organization following the entry into force of the Convention
on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
