The Mediterranean of the Phoenicians, from Tyr to Carthage. From
November 6 from 2007 to April 20 2008. Institut of the Arab World,
Paris, France
the Institute of the Arab World is pleased to invite you to a prodigious
adventure around the Mediterranean, that of the Phoenicians during
the first millenium before the Christian era. Navigators and merchants,
Phoenicians are also known for having spread the alphabet and created
great figures of mythology: Cadmos, Europe, Adonis… Although
the Phoenician architecture is still little known, since few monuments
have remained, on the contrary it is fascinating the estatues –
which includes extraordinary sarcophages that will be displayed
in the exhibition -, like the tangible culture that has been conserved
and which is made up essentially of material objects of great refinement.
