Exhibition
"Vauban the European"
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days and the 300th anniversary
of Vauban's death, the French delegation to the European Commission,
is organizing an exhibition to raise awareness in Europe of Louis
XIV's personal engineer. Vauban traveled over 3,000 km a year, voyaging
about 180,000 km during his lifetime: he thus understood the actual
condition of France and its neighbours. "Vauban the European"
allows the visitor to discover the European heritage of defense
and territorial planning left by Vauban. Photographs by Franck Lechenet
and an authentic miniature model of the 'ideal' system of fortifications
will be presented. Original manuscripts will moreover show how Vauban
was renowned throughout Europe. A virtual map of Europe during Vauban's
time, portraits, and various other audiovisual and multimedia elements
will display his work and life.
