Formal
declaration of accession by Trinidad and Tobago to the Statutes
of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and
Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM)
On 19 October 2007, Trinidad and Tobago deposited with the Director-General
a formal declaration of accession to the Statutes of the International
Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural
Property (ICCROM), in conformity with Article 2, paragraph 2, of
the Statutes. In accordance with the terms of Article 2, paragraph
4, of the above-mentioned Statutes, the membership of Trinidad and
Tobago in ICCROM will take effect thirty days following receipt
by the Director-General of the formal declaration of accession,
that is to say on 18 November 2007.

opens Iraqi Cultural Week and third meeting of the International
Coordination Committee for the Safeguarding of Iraqi Cultural Heritage
Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO, opened on
12 November the Iraqi Cultural Week in Paris, scheduled to take
place at Paris Headquarters from 12 to 21 November 2007.

Call
for proposals gridelines. EUROMED HERITAGE IV. Deadline for proposals:

We are pleased to announce that EuropeAid has published the new
Call for proposals for Euromed Heritage IV. The Euromed Heritage
was launched in September 1998 when ministers of culture from the
Euro- Mediterranean Partners met in Rhodes. They decided to finance
16 projects to be funded under the MEDA programme, with a total
budget of 17 € million. Their priorities were to : 1 Highlight
the Mediterranean heritage, 2 Exchange of know-how, 3 Promote knowledge
about heritage and 4 Offer training.

Express and World Monuments Fund launch iniciative to sustain historic
sites
American Express and the World Monuments Fund today announced a
new initiative that rewards and encourages the responsible stewardship
of historic sites by supporting projects that address the issue
of sustainable tourism. This initiative, which is part of the American
Express Partners in Preservation initiative launched in 2006, is
focused on sustaining historic sites in the face of increased visitor
activities and environmental impacts, and preserving them for future
generations to enjoy...

International Coordination Committee for the Safeguarding of Iraqi
Cultural Heritage launches an appeal to stop illicit trafficking
of Iraqi cultural property
The International Coordination Committee for the Safeguarding of
Iraqi Cultural Heritage, which met at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris
on 13 and 14 November, ended with an appeal to the international
community to help stop illicit excavations, pillaging and trafficking
of Iraqi cultural property.

Conserved, UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards Book Launched
The book Asia Conserved: Lessons Learned from the UNESCO Asia-Pacific
Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation(2000-2004) was officially
launched at the Phra Racha Wang Derm Palace (2004 Award of Merit)
on 16 August 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand. The book has been published
with the primary support of the Lord Wilson Heritage Trust, with contributions
from UNESCO Beijing, UNESCO Islamabad, UNESCO Jakarta and UNESCO Phnom

Pays? Conservation, Capacity Building and Corporate Social Responsibility
- Lecture by Gail Sussman, 23 November 2007 - Australia
Corporate Social Responsibility programs of industry can support
training for cultural heritage staff in developing countries. Training/work
initiatives for indigenous peoples are also part of the "who
pays" question. The presentation will flow into the advocacy
for a cultural heritage policy document for the mining industry
and potential programs coming out of those policies. A case study
will show how a listed, 16th century, adobe church in S. America,
was located over a silver deposit, resulting it being and reconstituted
as a poured concrete/stone structure with national culture ministry

UNESCO
hosts Iraqi Cultural Week from 12 to 21 November
The wealth and diversity of Iraq’s arts and culture will be
celebrated at UNESCO Headquarters from 12 to 21 November. The week
long programme of events will highlight Iraq’s leading contemporary
artists, musical traditions and its millenary heritage. It is being
organised by UNESCO in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture
and the Ministry of State for Tourism and Antiquities of Iraq.

Exhibition
"Lost Heritage: A Memorial to Traditional Houses of Makkah”.
From 6 to 16 November, 2007. University of Brighton, United Kingdom
It will coincide with discussion talks about traditional heritage
and architecture in particular, on Friday 9 November at 4:00 pm.
The talks will focus upon traditional houses of Makkah, and its
counterpart in Yanbu', an important port in the Red Sea and on the
route of the Hajj. Such a link between the Western Part of Saudi
cities in relation to such a religious occasion, alongside with
images of the architectural fabric of the old city of Makkah will
be exhibited for the first time out of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

EU Legislation on Cultural Heritage and Turkey" Project
This project was carried out in 2006 and 2007 and consists in translating
the EU Legislations on "Culture" from English into Turkish.
It also comprises the translation of other international legislative
texts such as international normative instruments from international
organizations such as UNESCO, the Council of Europe, etc. dealing
with the protection of culture and cultural heritage referred to
in the EU "Acquis Communautaire". Upon completion of the
Project, the translated legislations will be published in the Project
website http://www.kumid.eu
and as a hard copy after November 2007. In addition, an expert report
on the "Protection of Cultural Heritage in Education"
will be prepared which will be available at the contact address
below.
