alerta para a importância crescente das regiões polares
nos sistemas do planeta e como as mudanças nessas áreas
afetam a vida na Terra e podem ter consequências sócio-econômicas
dramáticas no futuro. "Em uma era de mudanças
climáticas e ambientais globais, aprender e se preocupar
com as regiões polares é crucial para o bem-estar
humano e do planeta como um todo", diz.

the oceans and tackling climate change
Safeguarding the oceans and tackling natural disasters and climate
change will top the agenda of the Assembly of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental
Oceanographic Commission (IOC), when it meets at UNESCO Headquarters
from 19 to 28 June.

Water
experts to develop key-action plan to shape the future
The Delft-based UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education is organizing
a three-day Symposium from 13 – 15 June entitled: “Water
for a Changing World: Enhancing Local Knowledge and Capacity”
on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. More than 300 representatives
from ministries, international development banks, international
organizations including the UN, as well as water corporations will
participate. Among the participants will be some of the 14.000 alumni
of the institute, including several ministers and CEOs.

International
postgraduate MSc Programme "Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation"
In October 2007, the University of Greifswald /Germany will start
the international postgraduate MSc Programme “Landscape Ecology
and Nature Conservation”. The 2-year programme addresses to
postgraduates and graduates with practical work experience. Based
on multidisciplinarity and individual mentoring, students will be
prepared for careers in international administration and organisations
as well as in research institutes and private companies.
