Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage (FUUH) is an UNESCO Project for undertaking activities to protect and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal networkof higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

Director-General and Flemish Minister renew UNESCO/Flanders Trust Fund agreement
On 22 October 2007, the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, together with Mr Geert Bourgeois, Flemish Minister for Administrative Affairs, Foreign Policy, Media and Tourism signed the renewal of the UNESCO/Flanders Trust Fund agreement for the support of UNESCO’s activities.

Monday October 15, 2007, Mr. Koïchiro Matsuura, General manager of UNESCO and Mr. Esfandyar Rahim Mashaee, Vice-president of the Islamic Republic of Iran and President of the ICHTO (Iranian Organization of the cultural inheritance), signed a memorandum of agreement on the safeguard, the conservation and the promotion of the cultural inheritance perse in Asia of the West.

The Director-General’s meetings in New York
On 24 September 2007, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO, attended the opening ceremony and thematic plenary session on “The Challenge of adaptation – from vulnerability to resilience” of the UN High Level Event on Climate Change in New York. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had convened world leaders to advance the global agenda on climate change and build momentum for the talks to be held in Bali in December. At a reception preceding the opening ceremony, the Director-General was able to greet a number of Heads of State and Government.

The Director-General pays his first official visit to Belize
From 17-19 September 2007, Koïchiro Matsuura, the Director-General of UNESCO, paid his first official visit to Belize. It was the first official visit of a UNESCO Director-General to the country. On 18 September, the Director-General held bilateral talks with Mr Said Musa, Prime Minister of Belize, who was accompanied by Mr Francis Fonseca, Attorney General and Minister of Labour, Education and Culture. He also met with Mr Colville Young, Governor-General of Belize, and Ms Lisa Showman, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Belize.

The Director-General opens the Universal Forum of Cultures in Monterrey, Mexico
On 20 September 2007, Koïchiro Matsuura, the Director-General of UNESCO, opened the Universal Forum of Cultures in Monterrey, Mexico, along with Mr Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, President of Mexico. Also present at the opening were Mr José Natividad Gonzales Parás, the Governor of the State of Nuevo Leon, Ms Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Ms Josefina Vázquez Mota, Secretary of Public Education of Mexico, Mr Sergio Vela Martinez, President of the National Council for Culture and Arts of Mexico, and Mr Adalberto Madero, Mayor of Monterrey.

The Director-General pays his fourth official visit to Mexico
From 19-21 September 2007, Koïchiro Matsuura, the Director-General of UNESCO, paid his fourth official visit to Mexico, on the occasion of the opening of the Universal Forum of Cultures in Monterrey, on 20 September 2007. Mr Matsuura opened the Universal Forum along with Mr Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, President of Mexico (see flash info N° 120-2007). The Forum, which celebrates cultural diversity and promotes international dialogue, will feature more than a thousand events - conferences, workshops, concerts and exhibitions - over close to three months.
