scholarships "Eugen Ionescu" - international call for
candidacies 2007-2008. Program: support and strengthening of the
university excellence
The government of Romania adopted the norm related to the creation
of the system of scholarships for doctoral studies and research
"Eugene Ionescu" for foreigners in higher education institutions
of Romania, members of the university Agency of the Francophonie.
This decision follows the commitment that Romania accepted during
the XI summit of the Francophonie (Bucharest, September 2006).
The objective of this program is to allow scholars and PhD students
from South countries members of the OIF, from secondary educations
members of the AUF, to benefit from a 3 - 8 months training in 14
Rumanian higher education institutions, recognized by their excellence
in different fields of education and investigation. The effective
management of these scholarships is coordinated by the university
Agency of the Francophonie, whose experience is internationally
acknowledged in this type of programs. Deadline: 30 September 2007

call to candidacies 2008-2009: training and research scholarships,
postdoctoral grants. Program: support and strengthening of the university
excellence
The university Agency of the Francophonie (AUF) offers scholarships
to foster international mobility between universities of foreign
countries. These scholarships are aimed to active candidates or
enrolled in centers members of the AUF at the moment of the presentation
of their candidacy and that plan follow part of their scientific
itinerary abroad. This call to candidacies proposes scholarships
for two of the nine large categories of mobility offered by the
AUF. They are mobilities aimed at the training and the improvement
of young scholars. Deadline: 18 December 2007.

Prizes
of the Francophonie of the AUF to four young researchers
The prizes were given to the winners on September 14, 2007 in Montreal.
The third edition of the Prizes of the francophonie for young researchers
2006-2007, scientific prizes given by the university Agency of the
francophonie, has awarded geographer René Joly Assako Assako,
from the' Université de Yaoundé I (Cameroun), and
philosopher Sébastien Charles, from the Université
de Sherbrooke (Canada-Québec), in the category "human
and social Sciences", as well as to microbiologist Caroline
Duchaine, from the University Laval (Canada-Quebec), and to remote
sensing engineer Abderrazak Bannari, from the University of Ottawa
(Canada), in the category "Sciences and medicine".

WIN YOUR STUDIES – Up to 2,000 $ in scholarships
The Tele-university, or Téluq, is the first university specialized
training center in distance education of Quebec. Recently, it has
been integrated in the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM).
Téluq’s mission is the university education and research.
It is characterized by its method of flexible education, that allows
to follow university studies adapted to the student’s schedule
and pace. It receives annually more than 16,000 students. Its programs
are guaranteed by a diploma from the University of Quebec in Montreal.
TÉLUQ and the UQAM are already the greatest bimodal university
of the francophonie, joining on campus and distance training.

Oxford-Geneva
Study Programme 2007-2008
Applications by mid-November 2007. The Europaeum is making available
a small bursary to support an Oxford graduate student to pursue
a programme of study at the Graduate Institute of International
Studies (HEI), Geneva, and a HEI graduate to study at Oxford University,
during the coming academic year. Appropriate programmes of study
can include periods of specialist library or archive work, supervisions
with desired tutors, taught programmes including specialist summer
schools, or field work, including work with organisations based
in and around Geneva or Oxford.

Contest
UNESCO’s International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) launched
a photo contest on 1 September on the theme of The Changing Face
of the Earth, to raise awareness among youth of the state of the
planet. The competition is open to 15–20 year-olds around
the world and there are 40 prizes to be won. Entries close on 31
January 2008

Mundus Programme
The Erasmus Mundus programme is a co-operation and mobility programme
in the field of higher education which promotes the European Union
as a centre of excellence in learning around the world. It supports
European top-quality Masters Courses and enhances the visibility
and attractiveness of European higher education in third countries.
It also provides EU-funded scholarships for third country nationals
participating in these Masters Courses, as well as scholarships
for EU-nationals studying at Partner universities throughout the
world.

Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Award Winners Announced
The Awards will be presented to the representatives of the awarded
achievements at the annual European Heritage Awards Ceremony, which
will take place on 8 June 2007 in the Stockholm City Hall in Sweden.
HRH the Prince Consort of Denmark, President of Europa Nostra, Ján
Figel', Member of the European Commission responsible for Education,
Training, Culture and Youth, HRH Princess Madeleine, Patron of Europa
Nostra Sweden and Mrs Llena Adelsohn-Liljeroth, Swedish Minister
of Culture, will participate in this event. The ceremony will be
honoured by the presence of Their Majesties the King and Queen of
Sweden.
