seminar on higher education challenges in Africa
“The Contribution of Higher Education to National Education
Systems: Current Challenges for Africa” is the theme of a
seminar organized by the UNESCO Forum on Higher Education, Research
and Knowledge from 22 to 24 March in Ghana, in cooperation with
the Association of African Universities, the University of Ghana
and the UNESCO Office in Accra.

Director-General condemns deadly attack on Baghdad college and urges
increased protection for Iraq's education system
The Director-General of UNESCO Koïchiro Matsuura today expressed
his shock and anger over the attack on a college in Baghdad Sunday,
in which 42 people were killed and another 55 injured, most of them
students. Mr Matsuura condemned the attack as "barbarous"
and called on the Iraqi authorities to do their utmost to secure
the education system from such violence. |
