Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage (FUUH) is an UNESCO Project for undertaking activities to protect and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal networkof higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

OBITUARY: Gilles Nourissier (International ICOMOS)
ICCROM regrets to announce that Gilles Nourissier died on 6 May 2007. A founder of the Ecole d’Avignon, twenty-two years ago, Gilles was serving as its director at the time of his death. One of his main interests in conservation was applied research and training for craftsmen and architects, in particular in traditional construction techniques and know-how. He was the author of a number of volumes including the Manual for the Conservation and Rehabilitation of Traditional Architecture in Syria, published in 2004, on which he collaborated with professionals from Syria, France, and Spain.

Tell me about the Slave Trade
The slave trade shattered the lives of millions of people. Many of those uprooted from their land and then bought and sold were children. Although slavery is today considered a crime against humanity, such exploitation and trafficking persist. An estimated 246 million children between 5 and 18 years of age continue to live in conditions of domestic or industrial slavery.

Seminar on Legal Instruments for land regulation.

The topics to deal with during this seminar are the social and legal processes in Brazil and Colombia, referred to the promulgation of legal instruments for the regulation of the land use at the national level; the existing proposals and legislative initiatives in Argentina related to the topic and its social, political and economic viability; and the current urban management in Argentina. The event is aimed at Argentine national legislators but open to the public, expecting the participation of professionals, scholars and stakeholders in the debate on the situation of the land market in Argentina.

EU-Australia co-operation in higher education and vocational training
The European Commissioner in charge of Education, Training, Culture and Youth Ján Figel', visited Australia from 16-19 April, to mark a new era in EU-Australia co-operation in higher education and training. He also promoted celebrations marking a decade of official co-operation between Australia and the EU as well as the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.
