FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

Accession by Chile to the Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, its First Protocol (The Hague, 14 May 1954) and its Second Protocol (The Hague, 26 March 1999)
On 11 September 2008, Chile deposited with the Director-General its instrument of accession to the Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and its two Protocols. In accordance with the terms of Article 33(2) of the Convention, Article 10(b) of its First Protocol and Article 43(2), the Convention and its two Protocols will enter into force with respect to Chile three months after the deposit of these instruments, that is to say on 11 December 2008.

Ratification by Papua New Guinea of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (Paris, 17 October 2003)
On 12 September 2008, Papua New Guinea deposited with the Director-General its instrument of ratification of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. In accordance with the terms of its Article 34, the aforementioned Convention will enter into force with respect to Papua New Guinea three months after the date of the deposit of this instrument, that is to say on 12 December 2008.

PDF PDF (1.45 MB) Street & Shadow Puppets
Within the framework of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, a project for the protection and promotion of traditional Egyptian street puppetry (Aragoz and Khayall Al Zill) is currently under preparation with the NGO Egyptian Society for Folk Traditions and its affiliated puppet troupe the Wamda Group. The project aims at collecting all available information on this age-old art threatened to disappear and to train a new generation of puppet performers and puppet craftspeople in Kharazatly House. The house, which belongs to the Ministry of Culture, is currently under the management of the NGO and the troupe. Safeguarding intangible heritage is one of the main current priorities of UNESCO in the cultural domain, extending the notion of World heritage or Heritage common to the whole of humanity to their particularly fragile forms of heritage: the oral and intangible ones.

Thanks to a grant from the European Commission, a survey of Egypt’s main traditional festivals has been launched by the UNESCO’s Mediterranean Programme (Network of Traditional Festivals of the Mediterranean) in cooperation with the NGO Egyptian Society for Folk Traditions. The activity, developed within the framework of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, aims at recording and mapping those festivals, to promote the most interesting at the cultural tourism level, to the benefit of local communities, and to include them in the Network of Traditional Festivals of the Mediterranean...

Ratification by Ethiopia of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (Paris, 20 October 2005)
On 2 September 2008, Ethiopia deposited with the Director-General its instrument of ratification of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. In accordance with the terms of its Article 29, the aforementioned Convention will enter into force with respect to Ethiopia three months after the date of the deposit of its instrument, that is to say on 2 December 2008.

The convention for the protection of cultural heritage, adopted by the general Conference of UNESCO in October 2003 is already operative. This agreement has just being adopted by the national Assembly of Cameroun and Chad during the first semester of 2008. Three months after the deposit of the instrument of ratification for UNESCO, these two countries will be State-party in the convention. And they will thus be committed to adopt "the necessary measures to guarantee the protection of the intangible cultural heritage in his territory".

The RCA has a rich cultural diversity that is expressed by a great variety of oral traditions, like the one of pygmy Aka people, which was declared masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of the humanity in 2003. With the purpose of safeguarding the elements of this rich intangible cultural heritage, they should be first defined, gathered and disseminated. The UNESCO Office of Yaundé supported the RCA in this inventory project
