Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage (FUUH) is an UNESCO Project for undertaking activities to protect and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal networkof higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

This notebook presents the experience of the Casa do Pontal Museum in preserving its patrimony of more than 8 thousand popular artworks. This publication deals with some of the challenges faced by the Museum in exhibiting, disseminating, and in the same time, guaranteeing longevity to its collection. Due to the Brazilian popular arts’ specificity and diversity, the proposal of publishing the Museums accumulated knowledge was raised by recognizing the importance of systematizing practices in the field of conservation and restoration of popular artworks. The notebook adopts a simple language intending to share its content with artwork collectors and cultural institutions that have similar collections throughout the country.
