PDF Trends in the Health of Selected Forests in the Eastern Arc & Coastal Forest Area
Most of the original crew members from the implementation team in 2000 were available to complete the re-measurement of our plots and all the plots were re-marked and GIS coordinates measured. The field work was completed in October 2006 and data based quality assured by March 2007. Since that time the field manual and data base were electronically shared with Kenya (Nature Kenya) and Tanzania (Wildlife Conservation Society), to the Conservation and management of Eastern Arc Forest Project and Antje Ahrends, PhD candidate, University of York, UK. Any one can use the data as they see fit. A draft report that summarizes all the data will be has been submitted to CEPF. PDF Mitigating Environmental and Social Consequences of Development in Biodiversity Hotspots of Southwest China, Final report - Centre for Biodiversity and Indigenous Knowledge
This project was executed and managed under a small-grant-making consultative committee based on civil society groups in Southwest (SW) China. The mechanisms identified issues of environmental justice (unfair distribution of socio-economic and environmental impacts among different stakeholders) and emphasized rights-based solutions in the form of legal aid, legal education, and legislative research in order to strengthen public participation and uphold the roles and rights of the grassroots community in resources governance and conservation. Moreover, the mechanism has benefited from and contributed to a stronger local NGO alliance that was expected to promote more robust public discourse and greater participation in programs to mitigate the effects of unregulated development projects (UDPs).

Long-term drought and sudden extreme weather are putting additional stress on the pockets of habitat that many threatened species depend on. This coupled with extensive and expanding habitat destruction has lead to an increase in the rate of extinction on continents and away from islands, where most historical extinction has occurred...

Two distance learning masters of the international Institute of engineering of water and the environment
With its 250 distance learning students, the international Institute of engineering of water and environment (IE), located in Burkina Faso, has the purpose of training more than 1000 people until 2011. The Institute would have to reach this objective quite easily, considering the development of its experts, the success of its students (90% employees 6 months after its training), and mainly the hundreds of million of public investments in infrastructures of expected and planned water management in Africa for the next years.

The 2 IE offers currently:

  • the distance learning professional Masters in Maintenance and management of community infrastructures and equipments (Masters M2 MGIEC), and also anticipates to offer online from this year:
  • the Masters in Integrated Management of hydraulic resources (M2 Masters TURNS)
