Forum UNESCO-University and
Heritage (FUUH) is an UNESCO Project for undertaking activities to protect
and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal networkof
higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of
the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia
(UPV) Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but
a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project
FUUH.
Ratification
by Uganda of the Convention for the
Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (Paris, 17 October
2003) On 13 May 2009, Uganda deposited with the Director-General
its instrument of ratification of the Convention for the Safeguarding
of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. In accordance with the terms
of its Article 34, the aforementioned Convention will enter into
force with respect to Uganda three months after the date of the
deposit of this instrument, that is to say on 13 August 2009.
Intergovernmental
Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural Property meeting
at UNESCO
The Intergovernmental Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural
Property to its Countries of Origin or its Restitution in Case
of Illicit Appropriation will hold its 15th session at UNESCO
Headquarters (room XII), from 11 to 13 May. The three cases pending
before the Committee will be up for further discussion.: the famous
Parthenon Marbles, presently in the British Museum and claimed
by Greece; the Hittite Sphinx of Bogazköy, involving Turkey
and Germany; and the Makonde Mask claimed from Switzerland by
Tanzania.

Ratification
by Austria of the Convention for
the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (Paris, 17
October 2003) On 9 April 2009, Austria deposited with the Director-General
its instrument of ratification of the Convention for the Safeguarding
of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. In accordance with the terms
of its Article 34, the aforementioned Convention will enter into
force with respect to Austria three months after the date of the
deposit of this instrument, that is to say on 9 July 2009.
Ratification
by Bosnia and Herzegovina of the
Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage
(Paris, 2 November 2001) On 22 April 2009, Bosnia and Herzegovina deposited with the
Director-General its instrument of ratification of the Convention
on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. In accordance
with the terms of its Article 27, the aforementioned Convention
will enter into force with respect to Bosnia and Herzegovina three
months after the date of the deposit of this instrument, that
is to say on 22 July 2009.
