- Exhibition: Guillaume Gillet, architect of the Thirty
Glorious Years
19 September 2009 - 13 December 2009. Cité de l’architecture
et du patrimoine. Paris (France)
Guillaume Gillet (1912-1987) is one of the most representative
architects of the 1945-1975 years. To get to know his work is
to measure the abundance of architectonic production of this period
and the ambition of programmes. It is also remembering the enthusiasm
of these decades which, from 1945 to 1975, marked an unequalled
growth.

- History Museum of Guanabacoa (Cuba)
Known as the House of the Stewardess, valuable representation
of the eclectic Cuban colonial architecture, the house was built
in the mid 19th century and is located in the very heart of the
Historic center of the Village of Asunción de Guanabacoa,
east of Havana. The Museum was inaugurated on 26 July 1964 and
treasures the most important and comprehensive ethnographic collection
on the three major religious cults brought or developed by African
slaves or their descendants in Cuba: the Regla de Ocha or Santería,
the Regla de Palo or Palo-Monte and the Sociedad Secreta Abakuá
)Abakuá Secret Society). Its cool colonial patio is the
venue of frequent sessions of music and dance related to the Afro-Cuban
religious rites, as well as other cultural and didactic activities
on ethnography in which prestigious personalities in Cuban culture
participate.

- Casa de África (Museum of African Heritage) of
the Office of the Historian of Havana
The building dates back to 1887. The upper floors were used as
family home and the ground floor was used for tobacco storage.
It is located on one of the most important streets of the then
Village of San Cristóbal de La Habana. On 6 January 1986
the Museum opened as Casa Museo de África (Museum of African
Heritage) exhibiting a comprehensive ethnographic collection from
the African continent which includes over two thousand pieces
organized by topic: the slavery; objects and artifacts that belonged
to Cuban scholar Don Fernando Ortiz: popular religions; African
collections (by cultural manifestation and by country). As part
of the scientific work, the Museum celebrates scientific events,
as well as courses and workshops taught by outstanding scholars
and researchers specialized in the African or Afro-Cuban topic.
The most important event is the Scientific Workshop on Social
and Cultural Afro-Cuban Anthropology “Among Cubans”,
the 16th edition of which will take place on 5 to 9 January 2010.

- Cuban National Museum of the Slave Route
The Cuban National Museum of The Slave Route is in the Fortress
of San Severino, a unique four-bastion plant with a marked symmetry.
This military construction is Renaissance style construction typical
of the Spanish fortresses built in America during the 18th century.
It is the oldest construction in the city of Matanzas, in the
Western region of Cuba. The construction works began at the same
time with the village, shortly alter the Foundation Documents
were signed, on 13 October 1693, and concluded by 1734 thanks
to the work of thousands of African slaves who were forced to
build walls, cave tunnels, dig water cisterns and position the
batteries of the fortress. A most remarkable and unique feature
of the building is the marks, still visible, made by the slaves
on the stone blocks, so as to facilitate counting and justify
to their masters the work carried out every day. In 1978, the
Fortress was declared National Monument of the Republic of Cuba
and on 16 June 2009 the Cuban National Museum of the Slave Route
was inaugurated.

- Museum of Carnival (Uruguay)
Montevideo is still the only city in America with a longest carnival
show in the world, which lasts for 45 consecutive days, and is
considered as a historic and cultural heritage of the city. Related
to the dynamic management of tourism, driving force for development
and generation of jobs, it has been declared as of National Interest
by the Presidency of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. The Carnival
of Montevideo is of an undoubtedly nature of social integration
It promotes the autochthonous culture, as well as the active involvement
and inclusion of African descendants favoring at the same time
the social and economic conditions for development and prosperity
which in turns leads to democracy. For these reasons, Montevideo
counts on a Museum of Carnival which preserves, reclaims exhibits
and disseminates the history and tradition of the greatest popular
festivity in the country and is inscribed among the so-called
“museums of identity”, and is, at the same time, the
instrument for assessing Carnival as a unique part of the intangible
cultural heritage of Uruguay.

per i beni e le attività culturali, i dati relativi all’andamento
dei visitatori e agli introiti registrati da musei, monumenti

a 33 milioni, gli introiti risultano essere inferiori quasi del
2% rispetto all’anno precedente. Non vanno meglio gli incassi

- Exhibition "African and Oceanic Art from the Barbier-Mueller
Museum - Metropolitan Museum of New York. NY (USA) 2 June - 27
September 2009
The collections of African and Oceanic art in the Barbier-Mueller
Museum in Geneva, begun in the 1920s by Josef Mueller and continued
by Jean Paul Barbier-Mueller, represent the culmination of more
than eight decades of wide-ranging collecting of works from both
regions. Presenting more than 30 highlights from the Barbier-Mueller’s
holdings of African and Oceanic sculpture, most never before displayed
in the United States, this exhibition explores a rich legacy of
connoisseurship. The African works on view feature a select group
of sculptures and masks from western, eastern, and central Africa.
From miniature to monumental, made of wood, ivory, metal, and
terracotta, the outstanding African works have been selected to
illustrate both the creativity of the continent’s artists
and the discerning eye of the collectors. The Oceanic works comprise
an array of rare and spectacular objects exemplifying the breadth
of achievement by artists from across the Pacific. They include
a striking group of figures, masks, and decorative art from Indonesia,
New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Easter Island, and other areas.

the National Museum" Metropolitan Museum of New York. NY
(USA) Through 20 September 2009
This exhibition highlights the amazing rediscovery of Silk Road
treasures from Central Asia, thought to have been lost during
decades of warfare and turmoil in Afghanistan. These masterpieces
of the Kabul Museum collection remained hidden for twenty-five
years, thanks to the heroism of the Kabul Museum's staff, who
had secretly crated them and placed them in the vaults of the
Central Bank in the presidential palace. It was only in 2004 that
the crates were opened to reveal that these works had survived
intact.

- Exhibition: Presentation of a selection of objects of
the Museum of Popular Art. Quai Branly Museum, Paris (France)
6 October 2009 to 24 January 2010
Mexico has a strategic geographic situation, as it happens with
the Italian boot crossing the Mediterranean, compulsory crossroad
between cultures. It is in Mexico, another point of cultural encounter,
where the Arab-Spanish crafts established before the Mesoamerican
Indigenous People that later integrated several imported skills
from the East, contributing to the training of a melting pot of
arts and crafts. Besides this privileged geographic situation,
Mexico benefits from the third richer biodiversity in the world,
which triggers a conjunction of fantastic factors having literally
sorung out from the magic hands of our craftsmen. At present,
the Museum of Popular Art of Mexico is proud to facilitate the
transmission of this immense heritage to the world.

- Exhibition: Teotihuacan, City of Gods. Museum of the
Quai Branly , Paris (France) 6 October 2009 to 24 January 2010
As a tribute to the Curator, Archaeologist Felipe Solis Olguin,
Director of the National Museum of Anthropology of Mexico, who
died on 23 April 2009. The Museum of Quai Branly presents, for
the first time in Europe, the mythical and mysterious civilization
of Teotihuacan, with an exhibition gathering around 450 exceptional
pieces, some of which have never been seen even in Mexico. Great
city of the old Mexico founded during the first century before
Christ, Teotihuacan had an incomparable cultural and artistic
vitality until the 7th century. When the Aztecs discovered it
abandoned they called it “where men became Gods”,
impressed by its amplitude and its beauty. The research carried
out under the auspices of INAH (National Institute of Anthropology
and History of Mexico) during the past 25 years achieved important
discoveries and allowed knowing this old culture better. 95% of
the objects coming from Mexican collections and 5% from European
collections, the exceptional objects displayed in the Quai Branly
Museum offer a unique occasion for the European public to understand
the role of this old city in the Mesoamerican world from an historical,
anthropological and mythological point of view.

quanto erano state disattese le disposizioni sui contratti pubblici,
in particolare quelle europee, venendo meno al principio generale
di trasparenza e all’obbligo di pubblicità previsto
dalle disposizioni del Trattato. L’Autorità per la
vigilanza sui contratti pubblici aveva fatto notare, inoltre,

- Child Like: Selected works from the Tarrawarra Museum
of Art Collection (Australia) 21 August - 8 November 2009
Child Like is an exhibition designed to stimulate children’s
curiosity and imagination while at the same time allowing them
to feel comfortable inside a space containing art works. Paintings
from the TWMA collection have been selected for their accessibility
in terms of colour, composition and technique for the 5 to 10
age group with the aim of encouraging children to express how
they feel about the art work. This is an opportunity for the children
to gain an understanding of the meaning of terms such as colour,
line, shape, pattern, balance, contrast, rhythm and symmetry.
To some the world of contemporary art can be difficult to comprehend.
Child Like will answer some basic questions and assist the viewer,
both young and old, in their ability to relate to, and enjoy,
contemporary art.
