- Mediterranean
interuniversity scientific co-operation projects (MeRSI): Call
2009. Deadline: 31 August 2009
Currently, the Mediterranean area, through the Union for the Mediterranean,
appears as an important place, especially from the point of view
of the international scientific community. The 23 coastal countries
are united by a common history and also by common challenges.
One may think first of environmental issues with concepts of sustainable
co-development, impact of climate change and issues of water or
power resources. Next, at the cultural and social level, this
region is a centre of tensions but also interreligious and cultural
dialogue, as it also faces the issue of the migratory flows that
oppose a northern developed border to a more underprivileged southern
one. All these issues and their theoretical or applied developments
refer directly to the scientific community through contexts of
crossing production and transfer of new and useful knowledge.
Within this context, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie
will co-finance 10 projects aimed at enriching common actions
and obtaining benefits from the scientific and academic competences
that are gathered around the Mediterranean. It also fosters the
scientific co-production in a Mediterranean dynamics with the
purpose of ensuring the recognition of regional academics at Mediterranean
and international level and promoting the scientific image of
a Mediterranean space of knowledge within the Francophonie. Thus,
the three regional offices of the Mediterranean area are launching
a Call for “interuniversity scientific co-operation projects
(PCSI)” in favour of Mediterranean region.

- REFF/RomaEuropa
FakeFactory: a detourned competition - Call for entries
The REFF/RomaEuropa FakeFactory competition is an international
design, architecture, landscape competition for students and young
architects/ designers/ landscape designers (under 40). The subject
of the competition is Freedom to remix where remixes gain value
as an opportunity to create an "in progress" archive
of design/architecture/landscape propositions, that are project/methodological
explorations models, capable of reacting in the face of continuous
transformations of contemporary social needs and that, transcending
all permanent and immobile characteristics, may be created and
recreated according to the needs of inhabitants/users/consumers
who become producers of different meanings within an aesthetic
vision of an infra-ordinary universe. The competition's theme
requires design/architecture/landscape proposals that are examples
of mutation/ dynamism/ ubiquity/ multi-functionality/ ecoresponsability;
interactive projects, diversified factors' containers, sign montages,
representations of moving landscapes, solutions that may be re-interpreted
by the individual who, having regained the creative process, uses/lives/
explores them according to a self-regulating principle. The goal
is to realize a map where the coordinates are able to subvert
the idea of a centre, where the user/ consumer is to become the
protagonist of an ideal, transitory, continually evolving scenario,
populated by multiple centralities, a privileged location for
differences. The most meaningful and innovative works will be
inserted in a catalogue and exposed in a specific exhibition.
Deadline for registration and entries is July 31, 2009.

at the EUROCLIO Secretariat, attended a workshop about the process
of applying for European Union Funding and Grants which was organized
by The Dutch Heritage Institute in their residence at the Herengracht
