  • JOB OFFERS - Interpretation Manager, Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority
    The Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority manages both the Coal Mines. Historic Site and the Port Arthur Historic Site, Tasmania’s premier tourism and cultural heritage destination. Both sites are on the Tasmanian Heritage Register, the National Heritage List and included in the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Nomination. The Authority is seeking to appoint an Interpretation Manager who will develop and manage interpretive programs for both sites, oversee the care and management of the Site’s collections, oversee the education program, provide strategic advice to senior management and contribute to the establishment of PAHSMA as a centre of excellence in the conservation and interpretation of cultural heritage places of international significance. The position is permanent full time working 38 hrs per week. Classification Level is Professional Stream Band 3 with a commencing salary of $77,210 per annum. The position is based at the Port Arthur Historic Site, some 100 kms from Hobart.   • FELLOWSHIPS - Announcement of winners of the Australia ICOMOS Victorian Scholarship
    As part of the implementation of the Victorian Government’s strategy Victoria’s Heritage: Strengthening our Communities, an Australia ICOMOS Victorian Scholarship has been offered again this year. The scholarship is to help build capacity within the heritage industry in Victoria, by supporting participation in recognised heritage conservation courses. This is a great initiative of Victorian Government and Heritage Victoria, and Australia ICOMOS is very pleased to implement it. I am delighted to advise that there are two very worthy winners of this year’s Australia ICOMOS Victorian Scholarship who have shown a deep commitment working in the heritage area. Giselle Harris is a historian working as an intern at Heritage Victoria. Amanda Mulligan is also employed by Heritage Victoria as the Hearings Support Officer. Each has been awarded a scholarship of $2,500 to attend the seven day University of Canberra course, Cultural Heritage Management run by Professor David Young. Congratulations to Giselle and Amanda!.     Over 3400 students from all 27 EU Member States participated in the EU organic logo competition. Out of all of the submissions, the jury made a pre-selection of the best 100 logos in the first judging round. In the following stage, the final three designs were selected- what a difficult task! Ces fonctions s'exercent actuellement avec le soutien de 3 directeurs adjoints et d'un responsable administratif. Le LOCEAN est une unité mixte de recherche, installée principalement sur le campus de l’UPMC, place Jussieu à Paris 5ème et sur deux autres sites (Centre IRD à Bondy, 93, et MNHN, rue Cuvier, Paris 5ème). Des personnels du laboratoire sont affectés en Nouvelle Calédonie et dans des instituts et laboratoires de pays du Sud (Brésil, Inde, Pérou, Sénégal) dans le cadre des missions spécifiques de l’IRD.   • AWARDS - "Nature Reserve Certificate" awarded to UNOG for Ariana Park
    The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) has been awarded the prestigious "Nature Reserve Certificate" by the Swiss non-profit organization "Fondation Nature & Economie". This well-known environmental quality label is awarded to entities that protect nature and contribute to biological diversity by managing at least 30 per cent of the green areas around buildings in a natural manner. The award of the Certificate constitutes an acknowledgement of UNOG’s firm commitment to climate neutrality and enables the Office to show an important example in line with the Secretary-General’s priorities. UNOG’s many initiatives to qualify for the Certificate include, among others, avoiding pesticides, utilizing compost and making use of sheep instead of lawnmowers. As a result of these concerted efforts over several years, visitors can enjoy the rich biodiversity of the 46-hectare park, with trees over 100 years old, more than 68,000 m2 of lush grassland and a large variety of flowers.

    UNESCO is seeking to appoint a renowned scientific leader and manager to serve as Director Division of Water Sciences, Secretary of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) and Deputy Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, based in Paris, France. UNESCO promotes international cooperation in science in the interests of peace, human rights and development. The last decade has seen a significant growth of the freshwater programmes of UNESCO responding to the priority status assigned to freshwater in recent years; as well as to the consideration of the potential impacts of global changes on this basic resource, and to the dramatic rise of freshwater issues in the international development and environment agenda. The incumbent will provide intellectual, strategic and operational leadership for the freshwater programmes of UNESCO. The Division is the responsible unit for two major international water programmes: the International Hydrological Programme (IHP), the only intergovernmental global water science and education programme in the United Nations system, and the United Nations system-wide World Water Assessment Programme Secretariat led and hosted by UNESCO.   • AWARDS - Europa Nostra Awards - Call for entries. Deadline: 1 October 2010
    Each year, Europa Nostra and the European Union reward the best of cultural heritage achievements. Through our European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards, we celebrate excellence and dedication by architects, craftsmen, volunteers, schools, local communities, heritage owners and media. Through the power of their example we stimulate creativity and innovation. The awards celebrate exemplary restorations and initiatives of the many facets of Europe’s cultural heritage in 4 categories, described below. Every year, up to six monetary awards of €10.000 each are awarded to the top laureates in the various categories. Criteria for the assessment of entries include excellence in the work executed and preliminary research conducted, as well as respect for artistic, cultural and social value, setting, authenticity and integrity. Special attention will also be paid to sustainability, interpretation and presentation, educational work, funding and management, and social responsibility. Entries can be on a scale ranging from small to large, local to international, and should display a standard of work considered outstanding in a European context.

    Créé en 1994, le Prix International du Documentaire et du Reportage Méditerranéen contribue à donner une meilleure visibilité aux oeuvres traitant de la société, de l’histoire, de la culture, du patrimoine, de l’art en Méditerranée, et à en faciliter la diffusion des deux côtés du bassin méditerranéen. Organisé par le CMCA et la RAI, il se déroule en deux étapes : la sélection à Marseille et la phase finale en Italie. Les villes ayant déjà accueilli le Prix sont Palerme, Soverato, Syracuse, Noto, Civitavecchia, Cagliari, Turin. Le Jury International est composé de professionnels de la télévision et du cinéma, réalisateurs, producteurs, diffuseurs, et de spécialistes de l'aire méditerranéenne.   • FELLOWSHIPS - How Entrepreneurs Can Save the World’s Most Beautiful Places
    An innovative finance program will help to protect seven of the world’s most precious and endangered natural wonders, the United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Foundation and Conservation International announced today.
