The conference entitled The UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity:
First Assessment and Legal Challenges for the Achievement of the Convention'
Objectives in Economically Destitute Countries, to be held in Paris,
France on 18-19 June 2008, aims to encourage a debate on fundamental
topics such as:
- the UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity: first assessment
and prospects;
- the Convention in the light of cultural freedom and the unbalance
between North and South: a tool for censorship, a tool for rich
countries?;
- the role of intellectual property in the promotion of cultural
diversity;
- cultural diversity for Southern countries without subsidies
nor alms: utopia?;
- the role of competition law for the promotion of cultural diversity;
and
- international trade law – the law of the strongest at
the expense of cultural diversity?
