Prix de la Francophonie pour jeunes chercheurs : 5ème

L’Agence universitaire de la Francophonie lance un appel à
candidatures pour la cinquième édition du Prix de
la Francophonie pour jeunes chercheurs. Cet appel est ouvert du
15 juillet au 31 octobre 2010. Les « Prix de la Francophonie
pour jeunes chercheurs » ont pour but de reconnaître
le mérite et la valeur d’un(e) chercheur(se) ayant
acquis une reconnaissance scientifique et ayant réalisé
une percée significative internationale, en particulier dans
le cadre de la Francophonie. Les Prix sont ouverts dans les champs
disciplinaires suivants :
- sciences et médecine,
- sciences humaines et sociales.
Le processus d’évaluation des dossiers et de sélection
des lauréats est placé sous la responsabilité
du Conseil scientifique de l’AUF. Une dotation de 9000 euros
sera attribuée, en 2011, à chacun des lauréats.

Prix Jean-Paul-L'Allier pour le Patrimoine: Début
des mises en candidature - Date limite de soumission: 31 août
2011
Ce prix est décerné à tous les deux ans par
l’Organisation des villes du patrimoine mondial (OVPM) à
une ville membre en règle de l’OVPM qui s’est
distinguée par une réalisation en vue de la conservation,
de la mise en valeur ou de la gestion d’un bien inscrit sur
la Liste du patrimoine mondial qui est situé sur son territoire.
Les villes membres en règle de l’OVPM qui peuvent participer
à ce concours doivent avoir payé annuellement leur
cotisation depuis les trois dernières années. Une
ville figurant sur la Liste du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO
depuis moins de trois ans pourra aussi s’inscrire à
ce concours international, en autant qu’elle est ait versé
sa cotisation annuellement à l’OVPM depuis sa reconnaissance
par l’UNESCO.

head donates Tallberg prize money to Pakistan flood victims
Says Natural Disaster Underlines the Serious Environmental
Change Challenge Emerging Across the Planet
Achim Steiner, the head of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP),
has donated a US$70,000 international leadership prize to relief
efforts in Pakistan following the devastating and on-going floods,
it was announced today.
Mr. Steiner, who called on others to also assist the victims and
support the humanitarian efforts in Pakistan, was awarded the 2010
Tällberg Foundation prize at a ceremony in Stockholm on Sunday
evening for 'principled pragmatism' and 'leadership that walks the
talk'. The value of the award, whose previous winners include former
Norwegian Prime Minister Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, is 500,000 Swedish
Krona or close to US$70,000.

The Berkeley Undergraduate Prize for Design Excellence endowment
was established in the Department of Architecture at the University
of California, Berkeley to promote architecture as a social art
through research, writing, and criticism: traditionally under-represented
aspects of the architecture curriculum. Each year, the Prize Committee
selects a topic important to the understanding of the interaction
of people and the built world that becomes the focus of the Essay
Competition. This year the topic is: Valuing the Sacred.
The Committee poses a Question on this website related to the topic.
Students enrolled in any undergraduate architecture program throughout
the world are invited to submit a 500-word essay proposal responding
to the Question. Undergraduate architecture students may team up
with undergraduates from Allied Arts and Social Sciences programs.

(en anglais) ADEPT wins Dalarna Library competition
Danish architects ADEPT Architects, together with an impressive
group of collaborators, have been awarded with the 1st prize on
the competition for the Dalarna Library in Sweden. The team includes
Sou Fujimoto (Japan, see all his projects previously featured on
AD), Topotek1 (Germany), Rambøll A/S (Denmark) and Bosch
& Fjord (Denmark).
The new library, placed centrally at the Dalarna university campus,
is organized as a ”spiral of knowledge” (see diagram
below). The sloping terrain continues in a ramp through the building.
Wrapping itself the ramp creates a spiral-shaped space – the
heart of the building for information seeking and easy orientation.
This organization of program creates a various learning environment
where students can take part in the vibrant life of the library
as well as retreat into various study niches. The different sound
levels and activities create a diverse and eventful library.

Architecture Prize
The Schelling Architecture Foundation has recently named the winners
of their Prize for Architecture and their Architectural Theory Prize.
The award was bestowed upon Chinese architects Wang Shu & Lu
Wenyu of Amateur Architecture Studio (for architecture) and the
French architect Jean-Louis Cohen (for architectural theory. We’ll
bring you more details on their projects throughout the upcoming
week, but first take a quick look at some of their buildings after
the break.

innovative green project
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and The
Nippon Foundation today officially launched the 2011 UNEP Sasakawa
Prize to find the most innovative environmental project in the developing
world - with a cash prize of US$ 200,000 awaiting the winner.
The UNEP Sasakawa Prize is awarded every year to a grassroots organisation
judged to have made an outstanding contribution to the protection
and management of the environment, and to social development. The
theme for this year's prize is "Forests for People, Forests
for Green Growth" in support of the United Nations International
Year of Forests in 2011.

The International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), which
represents the worldwide profession of landscape architecture, is
soliciting nominations for its Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award. The
IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award is the highest honour that the
International Federation of Landscape Architects can bestow upon
a landscape architect. The Award recognises a living landscape architect
whose lifetime achievements and contributions have had a unique
and lasting impact on the welfare of society and the environment
and on the promotion of the profession of landscape architecture.
The award is bestowed annually on an academic, public or private
practitioner whose work and achievements are respected internationally.
Nominations for the 2011 IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award must be

per la partecipazione italiana alla seconda edizione del Premio
del Paesaggio del Consiglio d’Europa indetta nell’ambito
dell’attuazione della Convenzione Europea del Paesaggio. La
procedura di selezione è rivolta ad amministrazioni pubbliche
e ONG, anche organizzate in forma di consorzi, che abbiano realizzato
interventi volti a dimostrare l’applicazione dei principi

Programme de bourses de recherche à l’ICCROM.

Dans le cadre de son Programme de stages et bourses, l'ICCROM encourage
les professionnels de haut niveau appartenant à des institutions
ou à des organisations de ses Etats membres à soumettre
leur candidature au Programme afin d’entreprendre un travail
de recherche dans l'un des domaines d'étude présentant
un intérêt pour l’ICCROM. Ce programme est ouvert
aux personnes titulaires au minimum d'une maîtrise, ou bénéficiant
d’une expérience de travail pertinente en conservation
du patrimoine et qui, en qualité d'enseignants ou de praticiens,
sont spécialistes de l'une des disciplines suivantes : histoire
de l'art, muséologie, archéologie, architecture, ingénierie,
conservation/restauration, science de la conservation, urbanisme
et conservation de bibliothèque et archives
Les recherches peuvent avoir unea durée de un à cinq
mois. L'ICCROM aidera les boursiers à obtenir les documents
nécessaires pour entrer et résider temporairement
en Italie, et à trouver un logement à un prix raisonnable.
Les boursiers, toutefois, seront responsables de leur assurance-maladie,
qui est obligatoire.
Aux candidats sélectionnés, l'ICCROM fournira un espace
de bureau, un ordinateur, et du matériel de bureau ; ils
auront libre accès au service de Documentation, bibliothèque
et archives. Au terme de leur bourse de recherche, ils seront invités
à effectuer une présentation sur les résultats
de leurs recherches. Les candidats doivent avoir une bonne connaissance
d'une des deux langues officielles de l'ICCROM (anglais et français).
Au vu des contraintes budgétaires, à partir de janvier
2011, l'ICCROM ne fournira plus de soutien financier aux boursiers.
Les candidats doivent entreprendre leur recherche de façon

CONCOURS
7e Programme-cadre de recherche et de développement
de la Communauté européenne : appel à propositions
européens 2011. Date limite : 2 février 2011
Le 7e Programme Cadre de Recherche et Développement (7e PCRD)
de la Commission Européenne est le principal instrument de
financement de la recherche communautaire. Son budget pour les 7
années (2007-2013) est de 50,5 milliards d’euros.
Les programmes de travail 2011 du 7e PCRD ont été
publiés le 20 juillet dernier. Au nombre de dix (environnement,
nanotechnologies, santé, transports, TIC, aliments-agriculture-pêche-biotechnologies,
énergie, sciences humaines et sociales, espace et sécurité),
ils incluent les appels à proposition européens 2011
dans ces dix thématiques.
En plus de ces appels spécifiques, d’autres appels
s’adressent aux pays tiers en général et peuvent
intéresser les pays d’Afrique, d’Amérique
latine, d’Asie. Les dates limites pour postuler à ces
appels sont différentes selon le thème. Elles s’étendent
entre 13 octobre 2010 et le 2 février 2011. Les montants
varient également selon l’appel et vont jusqu’à
7 millions d’euros par projet.

Concours : l'Agence universitaire de la Francophonie fête
ses 50 ans. Date limite de participation : 1er décembre 2010
L’Agence universitaire de la Francophonie, première
association mondiale d’universités francophones et
Opérateur pour l’enseignement supérieur et la
recherche des Sommets des Chefs d’Etat et de gouvernements
de la Francophonie, fêtera ses 50 ans d’existence en
septembre 2011. Pour marquer son 50ème anniversaire, l’Agence
organise un jeu-concours autour du thème : « Qu’est
ce que ma francophonie ? ». Les candidats doivent répondre
à la question posée. La participation au concours
est gratuite et sans frais ; elle est ouverte à l’ensemble
des étudiants francophones de niveau Licence 3 ou Master.
Le support d’expression est libre (texte de 1500 signes maximum,

In 2001, the United Nations adopted an ambitious list of eight goals
for international development. The Millennium Development Goals
include tall orders like "eradicate extreme poverty and hunger"
and "achieve universal primary education;" the
agreement was to have achieved the goals by 2015.
With that date swiftly approaching, the consensus seems to be that
conditions have improved — but perhaps not enough. In just
a few days, world leaders will gather in New York City to gauge
progress. Meanwhile, the U.N.'s second annual Picture This photo
contest has come to a close, with the aim of reinvigorating the
cause through images.

"Art of Tea" Architecture
The lobby of the UNU Headquarters in Tokyo has recently been playing
host to the winning entries of an Architectural competition held
by the Architectural Institute of Japan. The UNU was pleased to
present the collaborative efforts of the talented young Architects
whose designs overcame fierce competition and were chosen to be
constructed on 1:1 scale.
The competition was created in 2009 when Archi-TV and Gin Cha-kai
combined their efforts organize a competition in which Architectural
students were given the chance to enter their designs of tea houses,
the winning entries of which would be constructed.

Arquitectum jointly with the Universidad Finis Terrae and the Chilean
Association of Vineyards have recently launched the International
Architecture Competition “Santiago de Chile 2010?.
The challenge for this competition is to design a Museum that has
XX Century History of Wine exhibition areas and also be a landmark
for the city of Santiago. To this end, the plot where this project
will take place is located at Cerro San Cristóbal, since
this hill is the most natural and, at the same time, urban backdrop
to lay out a natural/artificial product such as wine. This is an
amazing opportunity for the winning architect to become well known
in a potentially growing market such as design of wine cellars and
vineyards of all South America.

Competition announced
It was a simple game of building blocks that inspired Coco
TIN Chi Ting's world-beating painting. Today, on the United Nations
International Youth Day, the 14-year-old from Hong Kong, China,
was announced the global winner of the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) 19th International Children's Painting Competition,
beating off stiff competition from hundreds of thousands of other
children from across the world.
Coco said her winning painting was a warning about pollution and
its effect on animals.
As the overall winner, she receives US$2,000 in prize money and
an all-expenses-paid trip in October to the Tunza International
Children's Conference in Nagoya, Japan, where she will formally
receive her award.
The second global winner is 11-year-old Katherine Liu from the United
States. She, along with six other regional winners, will receive
US$1,000 and a trip to the Tunza conference in Japan.

Rhino race (Kenya)
Over 7.5 million Kenya shillings was raised at the weekend during
the 6th edition of the annual Cycle with the Rhino race at the Lake
Nakuru National Park.
The money will be used for the erection of a baboon-proof electric
fence around the park as well as implement community projects in
conservation.
Flagged off by the Minister for Forestry and Wildlife Hon. Dr. Noah
Wekesa, the event drew over 57 adult cyclists for the 64-km race
within the park and through the neighbouring community as well as
Nakuru Town.
Unlike previously, this year’s race had three categories:
for children, juniors and adults (professionals). The children’s
race attracted 25 participants.

Concorso Nazionale Fotografico 2010 “Fotogrammi di Archeologia”.
Il Concorso, aperto a tutti, italiani e stranieri residenti in Italia,
fotografi professionisti e fotoamatori, senza limite d’età,
è suddiviso in due sezioni: a- foto a colori; b- foto in
bianconero. Ogni autore può partecipare con una sola fotografia
per sezione, inedita, mai premiata o segnalata in altri concorsi,
relativa ad aree archeologiche, scorci di parchi archeologici e/o
di siti archeologici particolarmente suggestivi di ogni parte d’Italia,

Per l’anno scolastico 2010/2011 il Centro per il Patrimonio
Mondiale dell’UNESCO, in collaborazione con le Scuole Associate
ASPnet, ha indetto un concorso internazionale che offre ai giovani
l’opportunità di ideare in prima persona una puntata
della serie Patrimonito’s World Heritage Adventures, un DVD
animato dedicato ai Siti del Patrimonio Mondiale riconosciuti dall’UNESCO
(http://whc.unesco.org/en/patrimonito/).
Tutti gli alunni delle scuole secondarie dei 187 Paesi membri della
Convenzione UNESCO per la salvaguardia del Patrimonio Mondiale sono
invitati a realizzare “storyboard” (storie illustrate
con disegni) sui seguenti temi:
- Patrimonio Mondiale e comunità locali (le persone che
vivono all’interno del Sito e nei pressi);
- Patrimonio Mondiale e turismo sostenibile (le responsabilità
dei visitatori);
- Patrimonio Mondiale e sviluppo sostenibile (come bilanciare
la conservazione dei Patrimoni con i bisogni umani);
- Patrimonio Mondiale e biodiversità (siti che sono cruciali
per il sostentamento della vita, della natura e delle specie viventi,
incluse quelle in via di estinzione).
I candidati devono individuare un tema ed applicarlo ad uno specifico
Sito UNESCO di loro preferenza. I temi possono essere combinati
tra loro ma quello predominante deve essere indicato. Protagonista
delle illustrazioni dovrà essere Patrimonito, il piccolo
guardiano del Patrimonio e mascotte del Programma Educativo dedicato
ai Siti UNESCO.

Appel à Candidatures pour la fonction de Président
de l’Observatoire de Paris. Date limite de soumission des

La fonction de Président de l’Observatoire de Paris
sera vacante à compter du 15 février 2011. Selon la
procédure établie, le Haut Comité Scientifique
(HCS) de l’Observatoire va créer en son sein un comité
pour faciliter la recherche de candidatures. Le HCS est actuellement
en phase de renouvellement de la moitié de ses membres. Une
réunion du nouveau HCS aura lieu en septembre 2010. En attendant
de connaître la personnalité qui présidera le
HCS renouvelé et la composition du comité de recherche

Conservation student trainees serve an internship from six to twelve
months in the paintings, drawings & prints, or contemporary
art & objects section. The internship program offers students
an opportunity to develop and refine their skills through the examination
and treatment of works of art under the guidance of professional
conservators. Informal discussions contribute to the programme.
In addition, the internship will include other museum-related activities.
Applications for internships are accepted twice annually: in March
for internships starting in June or September, and in October for
internships starting in January. Statens Museum for Kunst does not
offer any financial support for interns, and external funding is
therefore required. Statens Museum for Kunst will offer letters
of support for fundraising for the accepted candidate.

Internships. Deadline for Applications: 15

Each year a number of undergraduate and graduate internships are
available at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Internships
are offered during the summer, fall, and winter semesters, and academic
credit may be arranged through the intern's school. International
students are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications vary depending upon the project, but most are for
upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. Student status,
however, is not a prerequisite. Opportunities are generally not
available for high school students.
The Museum does not award college credit, but many U.S. colleges
and universities will recognize academic work performed while interning
at the Museum. Contact your academic advisor for instructions on
how to receive credit.

(en anglais) Chinati Foundation's Internship Program. Deadline

Since 1990, the Chinati Foundation's Internship Program has provided
hands-on museum experience to more than 240 students, recent graduates
and young professionals from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines.
During extended stays at Chinati, interns gain exposure to various
aspects of the museum's daily operations, working closely with staff,
resident artists, visiting scholars, architects, and museum professionals.
Interns play an essential role in the museum's daily operations
and gain valuable experience for future courses of study and careers
in museum and arts administration.
Over the last 20 years, participants in the program have included
interns from all parts of the United States, as well as Austria,
Belgium, England, Germany, Holland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico,
New Zealand, Portugal, Brazil, Scotland, Sweden, and Australia.
As compensation, the Museum offers interns a modest stipend of $100
per week and a furnished apartment on the Chinati grounds. Although
Chinati's internships are geared toward students pursuing degrees
in art, architecture, art history, conservation, or museum studies,
the museum welcomes applicants of all ages and backgrounds.

Opportunity to Lead New Train-themed Visitor Attraction in NSW

A CEO is being sought to position the Rail Heritage complex
in Thirlmere NSW, revitalised by a multi-million dollar redevelopment
now nearing completion.
This requires an experienced, dynamic CEO to develop and lead a
new company and management team, and to maintain effective and productive
relationships with NSW Rail Transport Museum, a voluntary organisation
which has been active on the site for 40 years, and is the ongoing
heritage train operator.
The successful candidate will have CEO/senior management experience
in a cultural or tourism visitor attraction, or a similar operating
environment, and will demonstrate strategic vision, strong commercial
